When the Experts Fail You, You Need to Understand Why

Events since 2007 have shown that companies and markets take actions with far reaching consequences even for those who don't think much about them. Never was there a greater need for people to give business executives and market participants closer scrutiny.

The courses available at B.M.E.W. explain how companies, markets and economies work. Offered initially to business and financial journalists at Dow Jones, the courses are suited to those who need a solid understanding of this material. In keeping with the original journalistic purpose of this training, the courses aim to help participants ask good questions, and understand the implications of the answers.

Business doesn’t need to be complicated. Nor do markets and economics. But they can look that way when jargon and media coverage encourage the uninitiated to see secretive activities understandable only to members of a club. The B.M.E.W. lessons cut through the jargon to make course participants comfortable talking about business, markets and economics.

The courses are therefore suitable not just for the journalist who asks questions professionally, but also for any public relations worker who must speak on behalf of an operating company or market player. Similarly, any employee wanting to read the employer’s accounts or anybody mystified by language that is needlessly intimidating will find them helpful.

The writing courses complement the ones in business, markets and economics. Participants will learn to organize material, write efficiently and effectively, and make the right choices about what’s relevant and what isn’t.
